Richard de Nooy

Novelist


Richard de Nooy writes novels, short stories and non-fiction and English and Dutch. 

His first novel, Six Fang Marks and a Tetanus Shot (Jacana Media, 2007), won the University of Johannesburg Prize for Best First Book in 2008, and was later published in Dutch by Nijgh & Van Ditmar.

De Nooy went on to write his next three novels in Dutch first and then English, having received grants from the Dutch Foundation for Literature. 

De Nooy spent six years researching and writing a book about his mother’s war stories. Verraad op Huize Zwaluwenburg (Betrayal at Zwaluwenburg Manor) was published in Dutch by Nijgh & Van Ditmar in 2022.

De Nooy is currently writing his first screenplay, jointly funded by the national film funds of the Netherlands and South Africa. He is also doing preparatory research for his fifth novel.
